A few years ago, Arthur Lizie, director of Bridgewater Growing Spaces Community Gardens (BGSCG), had a vision of community gardens that the Bridgewater State University students, workers, and community members could use to grow their own healthy, clean, and fair produce. So when nine acres of farm land opened up on the northern edge of land owned by the Department of Corrections, Lizie, along with the help of Sue McCombe, director of University and Community partnerships, jumped at the opportunity and secured the land for some community space. The garden is the first of several education and community related projects that are planned for the nine-acre plot.
